Diary of a Daymaker by David Wagner

New York is one of my favorite places to be in the fall. Seeing fashion come alive on the streets, in the stores, and watching such a diverse population interpret the season is always inspiring. Each year there is a beauty show called Intercoiffure at the Waldorf Astoria. The best salons from around the world are invited and I've been fortunate to be a member since 1989. Myself along with a number of artists from our Juut team took in the show and came away energized! The best hair artists in the world presented some amazing work that was all topped off by a visit from Sarah Jessica Parker to honor Oribe, an incredible artist. Aside from the show, I love to see what is happening with shops, restaurants, and galleries in New York City. My wife, Charlie, and our daughters, Coco and Ava, joined me for a few days as we explored the sights, sounds, tastes, and energy that is New York. We stayed at 60 Thompson in Soho. Key West! Kayaking through the Mangroves has been on my mind lately. Color and laughter! All services end up being customized, so I enjoy giving to a willing recipient. It is wonderful fun to create change and give relief. I like to receive any service but most often take manicures. My favorite is massage of course! Angels + Divas

The night of October 5th drew a community of Daymakers to the St. Paul Hotel in support of the annual Angels + Divas event benefiting the Angel Foundation. The Angel Foundation donates their proceeds to deserving individuals affected by cancer and in need of resources for non-medical expenses. Not only does this foundation help with financial strain, but through their funds they ease outside stress during difficult times. Through ticket sales, sponsorships, silent auction items and a Life as a Daymaker book signing, Angels + Divas raised thousands of dollars this year. As a sponsor, Juut assembled a team of stylists and makeup artists to donate their time and talent to prepare models for the main event – the fashion show! Master Stylist at Juut Downtown, Woody Theis, and her team of Juut artists readied models with fabulous hair and eye-catching makeup. NYC Fashion Week

Working backstage at fashion week is a dream come true for a hair stylist.  I am fortunate enough to have worked my tenth season and the excitement hasn’t faded. For Spring/Summer 2012, like every other season, I packed my suitcase to the brim with curling irons, crimpers and a surplus of pins and headed off to New York City.  This season I styled hair for Betsey Johnson, Academy of Art University, Kahri, Christian Siriano, and Jen Kao. All of the shows were fantastic, but the one that best captured the excitement of New York Fashion Week was Betsey Johnson’s show.  More than just a fashion show, Betsey throws a decked-out party replete with DJ, champagne, and pink hair extension party favors.  Hip-hop and R&B artist Nicki Minaj inspired her Spring collection which celebrated voluptuous women.
