David Wagner enrolls as a student of Horst Rechelbacher, founder of Aveda, at Horst Education Center (now Aveda Institutes).

Aveda Clove Shampoo

Horst Rechelbacher launches Aveda’s first product, Clove Shampoo.

David studies with hairdressing masters Lluís Llongueras in Barcelona; Bruno Pittini, Rudy Harlow and Jacques Dessange in Paris; and Vidal Sassoon in London.

David is named vice president of Horst and Friends International.

1983

David opens Salon Salon in uptown Minneapolis.

1986

David is named “Aveda Master of the Arts” and Salon Today names David Wagner as one of the “Top 20 Salon Owners of the Year”

David buys Horst out, and forms David Wagner Salons Inc., d.b.a. Horst Salons & Day Spas.
